I can't get enough of "In Rainbows," Radiohead's latest release. It's just perfect and so completely relative to my life right now; the rhythms match my walk, the chord changes pull my brain waves, the vocals stand out like words in my head... all of it.
Sometimes I hear a song I used to listen to a lot and it evokes a memory, which I love. But I think this whole album will make me remember this whole summer. It's definitely easy to find a single song to match your head when it's searching, but a whole album?
I like to think that the band is tapping into me, or vice versa. And it gives me more faith in humanity, those unseen connections that we think we've made. Being human has that gift of insightfulness and I want to use it as much as I can.
So I believe that Radiohead loves me. And I assure you, they do.
I've also been listening to one of my favorite Iron and Wine songs, "Sodom, South Georgia."
You want to know the essence of purity? Read and listen to this song.
Wide as the ring of a bell
Gone all star white
Small as a wish in a well
And Sodom, South Georgia
Woke like a tree full of bees
Buried in Christmas
Bows and a blanket of weeds
Papa died Sunday and I understood
All dead white boys say, "God is good"
White tongues hang out, "God is good"
Papa died while my
Girl Lady Edith was born
Both heads fell like
Eyes on a crack in the door
And Sodom, South Georgia
Slept on an acre of bones
Slept through Christmas
Slept like a bucket of snow
Papa died Sunday and I understood
All dead white boys say, "God is good"
White tongues hang out, "God is good"'
Sam Beam is a magician.
On another note, I finally received a track from a friend of mine who is a musician and about to release his major label debut. I just have to put it out there that he's so fucking talented and I'm really excited about the whole thing for him. I hope people respond to him the way I have, completely impressed. I really believe he'll do well, but if he doesn't, he's helped change my perspective and it has made me a better person because of it.
I'm not putting any links or mp3s until it's released, but I just had to type this down...
....for future self-reference.
